British rider Oliver Townend has equestrianism in his blood. The 26 year old’s father rode at the prestigious Burghley Horse Trials and his mother showed side saddle at County level.
Leicestershire-based Oliver has an impressive string of horses, so there are few competition days when Oliver is not in action. 2007 was Oliver's best season to date - he clocked up a massive 1,886 British Eventing points.
Oliver spent three years as stable jockey to British Team Trainer, Kenneth Clawson before setting up on his own.
The Hon William Russell's “Topping” provided Oliver with his first crack at Badminton, where he finished in twelfth place. This earned him an individual place at the European Championships, Blenheim in 2005.
Oliver started his international career when he represented Britain at the European Championships in 2005 in Blenheim at the age of just twenty two.
From there Oliver has gone from strength to strength, securing third at Badminton in 2006 with Flint Curtis and a first team place gold medal at the European Championship at Pratoni in September 2007.
